Citizens Bank International Limited has signed an agreement with Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) to operate NepalPay cards under the National Payment Switch (NPS) and National Card Switch framework. The agreement was signed by Ganesh Raj Pokharel, CEO of Citizens Bank, and Nileshman Singh Pradhan, CEO of NCHL.
With this agreement, Citizens Bank has become the first bank to issue NepalPay cards as an EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) member of NCHL. Following the implementation, Citizens Bank’s ATMs and POS terminals will accept NepalPay cards along with international cards such as Discover, Diners, and Pulse.
The initiative will soon enable customers to access Nepal’s own domestic card scheme, NepalPay, strengthening the country’s digital payment ecosystem.
Earlier, Citizens Bank had launched Nepal’s first virtual credit card, “Citizens Fonepay Credit Card,” in collaboration with Fonepay. The bank has also introduced youth-focused products such as the “Citizens Gen-Z Saving Account,” the integrated online platform “Citizens Digi Bank Service,” and a dedicated Freelancer Saving Account.
Additionally, the bank offers innovative services including share application and CRN number issuance via mobile banking, as well as cross-bank teller QR services, allowing customers of other banks to withdraw cash from Citizens Bank branches.
Currently, Citizens Bank International Limited serves around 1.976 million customers through its network of 200 branches, 169 ATMs, 3 extension counters, and 42 branchless banking units across 61 districts of Nepal, delivering modern and customer-centric banking services.
