The E-Governance Board of Nepal recently organized a multistakeholder discussion on the National Data Exchange Platform and data interoperability, aiming to streamline government services, enhance transparency, and strengthen digital governance.
The initiative marks a significant step toward Nepal’s digital transformation, as the government plans to establish a unified National Data Exchange Platform expected to revolutionize service delivery and e-governance. Key stakeholders from government, private sector, and ICT associations shared their vision for a connected digital ecosystem during the discussion.
Chiranjibi Adhikari, Senior Vice President of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) and CEO of One Cover Pvt. Ltd., highlighted that the platform will end the long-standing issue of citizens repeatedly submitting personal details to multiple government agencies. “This initiative will make service delivery faster, transparent, and reliable. Citizens will only need to provide their personal and biometric information once,” he said.
Aligned with the broader Digital Nepal framework, the platform aims to improve efficiency, accountability, and transparency across public institutions. Officials noted that it will allow different government bodies to share information securely through a single interface, addressing challenges caused by siloed data structures in agencies like the Employee Provident Fund, Social Security Fund, and hospitals.
The proposed platform will enable automatic and secure data transfers, reducing duplication and ensuring consistency across organizations. Experts emphasized its benefits for multiple sectors, including agencies such as the National Identity Card Department, Customs Department, and Internal Revenue Department, which will gain seamless coordination.
Data security and standardization are central to the initiative. By introducing unified data standards, all agencies can “speak the same language,” enhancing collaboration while protecting sensitive information. The government’s inclusion of the platform in annual policies underscores its commitment to modernizing governance and restructuring administrative processes.
Adhikari concluded, “The Data Exchange Platform is more than a technological upgrade—it is a transformative leap for Nepal. It will simplify administration and empower every citizen by building a faster, transparent, and secure government service system.”
