CBFIN Pledges Support for Peaceful Governance and Reconstruction After Gen-Z Movement

The Confederation of Banks and Financial Institutions Nepal (CBFIN) has expressed deep sorrow and solidarity following the nationwide Gen-Z–led movement, which, after days of turmoil, has eased into a peaceful resolution with the formation of an interim government. CBFIN said Nepal is now gradually moving back toward normalcy after one of the most challenging and frightening moments in its history.

In an official statement, CBFIN paid heartfelt tribute to the promising young people who lost their lives during the protests and to the security personnel who died in the line of duty. The confederation extended its sincere condolences to grieving families and wished a speedy recovery to all those injured.

The statement noted that just as Nepal’s economy was regaining momentum after the devastating earthquake and the COVID-19 crisis, the youth-driven movement for good governance delivered a powerful message. However, CBFIN expressed shock at the human and material losses caused by violent and self-serving attacks during the protests, which inflicted irreparable damage on public, government, and private property across the country.

Despite these severe losses, CBFIN emphasized that the movement has become a “starting point” for building a well-governed, prosperous new Nepal. The organization pledged that the banking and financial sector, under CBFIN’s umbrella, will work hand in hand with the newly formed government to represent the voices and aspirations of the younger generation and to help create a peaceful, well-governed, and developed nation.

CBFIN said it is confident that the new government will ensure peace and security while creating policies and an environment that encourage domestic investment, business, and employment opportunities, thereby restoring hope and energy to the private sector shaken by unprecedented attacks and destruction.

The confederation also called on all stakeholders to help ensure that strong and responsible banks and financial institutions—pillars of the economy and key drivers of sustainable development—can continue to operate their banking services smoothly. CBFIN urged vigilance against those who intentionally damage banking and financial infrastructure.

“Standing on the foundation laid by this movement, CBFIN remains committed to supporting the journey toward a peaceful and well-governed new Nepal,” the statement concluded.
