Rajendra Mall, an economic expert, has emphasized that the planned, wise, and productive use of remittances is crucial for Nepal’s economic future.
According to Mall, money sent by Nepali workers abroad should not be limited to consumption alone, but should be directed toward production and export-oriented sectors. If properly utilized, Nepal can quickly transform from an import-dependent economy to a production and export-driven economy.
He stated, “Remittances should be invested in agricultural modernization, hydropower, small industries, tourism, IT, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This would create millions of jobs, increase domestic capital flow, and bring new energy to rural economies.”
Mall further highlighted the importance of bringing fallow land into productive use through modern farming, multi-crop cultivation, and plantation. Quick, simple, and free soil testing services would allow farmers to decide the best crops for each plot, doubling production and boosting export capacity.
