Nepal Launches First Device-Based Insurance for Foreign Tourists

In a revolutionary step for Nepalese tourism, Himalayan Guardian Nepal (HGN) has launched the nation’s first government-approved, device-based insurance service designed specifically for foreign visitors.

The new system, called Comprehensive Tourism Guard (CTG), integrates advanced satellite technology with local insurance processing to ensure safety and transparency for high-altitude adventures in the Himalayas.

During a press conference in Kathmandu, HGN representatives emphasized that this is the first time IoT (Internet of Things) devices have been combined with insurance policies approved by the Nepal Insurance Authority and Nepal Telecommunication Authority.

Key Features:

  • Satellite-Connected SOS: Every tourist receives a tracker/messenger with a one-touch SOS button.

  • Rapid Emergency Response: Activating SOS alerts local rescue operators and medical teams within 30 seconds, reaching the GPS location within 30 minutes.

  • Cashless Claims: Tourists can access medical and rescue services without upfront payments.

  • Real-Time Monitoring: Devices track location and vital signs to ensure rescues are only dispatched for genuine emergencies.

The system also addresses long-standing issues of helicopter rescue fraud, high insurance premiums, and medical overbilling in the region.

Insurance Packages:

  • CTG-Basic: 3,500m, 14 Days, $16

  • CTG-Plus: 5,500m, 14 Days, $150

  • CTG-Pro: 6,000m, 60 Days, $500

All packages are available exclusively through registered trekking and tour agencies in Nepal.

According to Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, former CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board and HGN initiator, this launch marks a “new chapter in Nepal’s tourism security,” combining affordability with high-tech rescue coordination to restore trust in adventure tourism.
