Rajendra Mall Urges Political Parties to Present Realistic, Actionable Manifestos

Rajendra Mall, former President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, has urged political parties to release manifestos that include only feasible and implementable programs based on the country’s capacity and needs.

Speaking at the “Economic Agenda in Party Manifestos” event organized by the Nepal Economic Journalists’ Association on Sunday in Kathmandu, Mall emphasized,

“A manifesto should benefit citizens directly rather than just look attractive on paper. We must move forward with short-term, practical goals.”

He highlighted that political competition often leads to negative agendas and stressed the need for all parties to develop a shared perspective on economic agendas.

Referring to the current financial scenario where operating expenditure accounts for 80% and development expenditure only 20%, Mall recommended including clear plans to reduce routine expenses and boost production-oriented activities in party manifestos.

For youth employment, he suggested introducing a “part-time job” concept to provide opportunities for 20–25-year-olds domestically. He also stressed prioritizing the agriculture sector, forest and medicinal plants, and IT sector development in manifestos.

Mall further proposed implementing time-bound action plans and establishing accountability systems to improve public service delivery.

According to him, such manifestos can enhance national productivity, create jobs for youth, and accelerate economic development.
