Future Profitability Will Depend on Asset Quality
Although the banking sector recorded overall profit growth, the two-month results provide only an early indication of its financial performance for the full fiscal year.
The sustainability of earnings will depend on several factors, including the recovery of non-performing loans, loan-loss provisioning requirements, interest margins, and operational cost management in the coming quarters.
The latest figures indicate that Nepal’s commercial banking sector began fiscal year 2083/84 with higher aggregate profits, led by Nabil Bank in absolute earnings and Himalayan Bank in percentage growth. However, the performance of individual banks remains uneven, highlighting differences in their earnings momentum during the review period.
