Kathmandu — eSewa, in collaboration with Citizens Bank International, has launched a digital lending facility named ‘Swabalamban Loan’ specifically aimed at persons with disabilities.
The loan facility was unveiled at an event held in Kathmandu. According to eSewa, the new service is designed to make access to credit easier by reducing lengthy procedures, paperwork, and the need for physical presence during the loan application process.
Representatives from eSewa, Citizens Bank International, the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal, development partner organizations, persons with disabilities, and the media participated in the event.
Under the ‘Swabalamban Loan’ facility, eligible persons with disabilities can apply for a loan directly through the eSewa app. The facility provides loans ranging from a minimum of Rs 10,000 to a maximum of Rs 200,000.
The annual interest rate for the loan has been set at 9.99 percent, while the processing fee is 0.75 percent.
Eligible users can apply by clicking the ‘Swabalamban Loan’ banner available on the home page of the eSewa app and completing the application process.
To qualify for the loan, applicants must have a KYC-verified eSewa account, a disability identity card issued by the Government of Nepal, and at least six months of eSewa usage history. Applicants must also have a regular source of income through employment or business.
The loan approval assessment and other related procedures will be carried out according to the prevailing criteria of Citizens Bank International.
Speaking at the event, eSewa Chief Executive Officer Jagadish Khadka said the company aims to use digital technology to make access to credit simpler and more convenient for persons with disabilities.
He described ‘Swabalamban Loan’ not merely as a lending product but as the beginning of a broader approach toward expanding financial access. He also stated that physical circumstances should not limit an individual’s access to financial services and expressed confidence that the new facility would support greater participation of persons with disabilities in financial services.
Similarly, Citizens Bank International Chief Operating Officer Roshan Manandhar said the bank was pleased to collaborate with eSewa to expand access to formal credit for persons with disabilities.
According to Manandhar, the ‘Swabalamban Loan’ is expected to provide financial solutions addressing the personal and economic needs of persons with disabilities.
The event also featured remarks from the organizations’ leadership, an overview of the ‘Swabalamban Loan’ facility, a live loan disbursement, a customer experience, and a documentary highlighting the initiative.
