KATHMANDU, September 16: Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Toru Maeda paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Balendra Shah at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar on Wednesday, with discussions focusing on Japan’s support for Nepal’s post-disaster recovery and bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shah expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their goodwill, solidarity and support toward Nepal and communities affected by the recent floods. He also thanked Japan for the humanitarian assistance and grant support provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Ambassador Maeda expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods and extended condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.
He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Nepal in the rehabilitation of disaster-affected communities and post-disaster reconstruction. He also stressed the importance of further scientific study and research into the causes and impacts of floods and other disasters in Nepal.
The meeting also covered various aspects of Nepal–Japan bilateral relations and ongoing cooperation, including infrastructure development, technology transfer and education. Japan has been a long-standing development partner of Nepal.
